Our Summer Weekly Rental home is an Antique Cape, single-family rental comfortable with up to 6 persons — and generally no more than 4 or 5 adults. It’s very well maintained and rents easily. We are located on the Ocean Side of Shore Road, between Lighthouse Beach and the Chatham Bars Inn. Just four homeowners access their property via Briggs Way, so it is very private. There is just one house between our home and the Atlantic Ocean with no roads in between.
You can easily walk to Town, Fish Pier, Chatham Bars Inn, Chatham Light House, Band Concerts and Beaches. Veteran’s Field, where the Chatham A’s play, and adjacent kids play ground is about a 15-minute walk. Like many vintage homes near the Ocean, our home is not central air conditioned (although we have adequate window-mounted units installed in all bedrooms and living room area. Window fans are available. There is usually a breeze off the Ocean and the nights are mostly cool. We have a huge backyard where children can freely play. The house sits on .93 acre of property with organic grown trees, shrubs and flowers. The entire property has been maintained and landscaped in an ‘organic’ way. We have legal rights to the Ocean via path (see lookout photos up and down the coast). There are 6 nearby swimming beaches, 4 of them within a 5-10-minute walk — slightly longer with small children.
1) Chatham Lighthouse and Lighthouse Beach – walk to the South;
2) End of Andrew Harding’s Lane – just before reaching Chatham Lighthouse Beach;
3) Clafin Landing – short walk North – immediately after the Hawthorn Motel;
4) Chatham Bar’s Inn Beach;
5) Oyster Pond, most convenient pond setting for small children
(Oyster Pond is a short drive where parking is available)
6) Harding’s Beach
(Harding’s Beach is a slightly longer drive were parking is available)
Sleeping accommodations in the main house include 4 bedrooms:
*Lower floor master suite with luxury queen sized bed, sitting room, walk-in closet, with private bathroom with air-tub/ shower
*Upper floor over-sized twins with shared bathroom, European tub/shower;
*Smaller first-floor trundle twin set with private bathroom /stall shower;
*Smaller upstairs trundle twin set with shared bathroom, European tub/ shower
*The “Kid’s Out-back” (named by a visiting Australian family) is a small room located adjacent to the garage structure and includes “child/ teen–sized” studio twin set, shower, toilet and sink, DVD. It’s rustic, but kids/ teens love having their own space away from the main house. This room is popular with pre-teens and smaller teens.
Our neighborhood is very private and quiet, so we are unable to accommodate reunions, weddings or similar events on our property. Our home is very nicely furnished, far above what you would expect for a rental. It’s a bow-roofed Cape built in 1950 and has retained a very Cape Cod look – inside and out. Our guests want ‘Cape Cod charm’ – not ‘city-modern’. The presentation is ‘The Way the Cape used to be’. It’s our retirement home — so every rental dime has gone back into the property…and it shows. All of our reviews are 5-Star.
Located in probably Chatham’s most desirable neighborhood — between the Chatham Bars Inn and the Lighthouse Beach, on the Ocean side of Shore Road. I mention this because you will be paying a premium to be in this area, as I do. It’s important that you get the right house for your situation. Money is not the driving factor for us. We want our guests to have a great time — create some lasting memories with their loved-ones — and feel they received good value. When you arrive, there should be no disappointments. The house has many antiques and paintings consistent with the area. All appliances are either recent or in excellent working condition. All our beds are relatively new and very comfortable. All three bathrooms (+ the Kids Outback) have been updated recently. The kitchen was updated in 2017.
Chatham is a 300+ year old whaling village where sidewalks are few and parking is scarce…so location is critical to your stay. We are comfortable with up to 4 cars in our driveway plus several visitor cars at the Ocean end of our property (if needed).
